SANTA CRUZ — The Santa Cruz County Parks Department and the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter welcomes individuals and their dogs to eat, drink, play and swim from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 for the seventh annual Parks & Rex Pool Party at the Simpkins Family Swim Center, 979 17th Ave., Santa Cruz.
The cost in advance is $15 for adults and $5 for children age 17 and younger. Children age 2 and younger are free. On the day of the event, the price increases to $20 for adults and $10 for children.
The event features a host a variety of water activities for adults, children and dogs including inner tubes, stand-up paddle boards. There will be a zero depth ramp entry to the pool if needed.
“Concluding the annual summer aquatic season with allowing our furry-four legged friends to take a dip in the pool to enjoy a swim while also helping raise funds towards shelter programs and programs for kids is one of the best events that we have each summer,” said Rebecca Hurley, parks superintendent of Santa Cruz County Parks in a prepared release.
Attendees will have a chance to win raffle prizes and purchase food onsite by local food vendors and adults can purchase beer and wine donated by donated by New Bohemia Brewing Company, Sante Adairius and the Alfaro Family Vineyard Winery to also raise funds toward these community programs.
“The generous donations by so many local businesses to help raise money for programs that benefit our shelter animals and also local youth programs is not only heart warming but is indicative of the kind community that we live in,” said Erika Smart, interim general manager of Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter in a prepared release.
Proceeds raised benefit Santa Cruz County’s vulnerable populations through initiatives such as free veterinary care for underserved pet owners and scholarship support for youth recreation programs and services.
